A quality mode for DAE analysis, and a lighter default
In the new versions of the Metodix Delphi plugins you can choose whether an analysis runs on the most capable AI model at every step or on a lighter split of models. The split is the default, and it saves your Claude subscription's usage limit. You can always force quality.
Why we made the change
The planning and analysis plugins run in your own Claude environment, so their AI use counts against your own Claude subscription. We measured one full-scale DAE analysis step by step. Most of the usage came from a long session re-reading the whole earlier conversation on every turn, not from the analysis work itself.
What changes
- Optimised mode (default). Interpretively demanding steps still run on the most capable model, Opus: discourse analysis, causal layered analysis, the tension map, the grand synthesis, the scenarios, and in planning the framing of the phenomenon and the wording of the theses. Structured work such as coding, classification and report templates runs on Sonnet.
- Quality mode. Every step runs on Opus. Choose the mode at the start of the analysis (CP-0) or of the planning (B1), or switch it at any time with the command "quality mode on" or "quality mode off". In quality mode, also choose Opus as the model for the conversation.
- Session split by phase. The plugins suggest a new session at every phase boundary and warn you when the conversation has grown large. The state of the analysis carries over in a save file, so nothing is lost.
What does not change
Quality gates, κ checks and routing to human coding work as before in both modes. The synthesis and the interpretation are still yours to approve.
Update the plugins
The new versions are available in the marketplace from 26 October 2026. Quality mode requires updating dae-core (analysis) or planning-core (planning). The other plugins get step-specific models.
- metodix-dae-core 0.17.0 and metodix-planning-core 0.26.0
- metodix-dae-foundation 0.20.1, metodix-dae-content 0.8.3, metodix-dae-system 0.16.6, metodix-dae-futures 0.5.1, metodix-dae-synthesis 0.4.3 and metodix-dae-report 0.5.2
- metodix-planning-preanalysis 0.6.1, metodix-planning-simulation 0.11.1, metodix-planning-perspective 0.7.1 and metodix-planning-learning 0.6.2
In Claude Code, update with claude plugin marketplace update metodix-delphi and claude plugin update <plugin>@metodix-delphi.
Our recommendations
- Use optimised mode for everyday work, and quality mode when the quality of interpretation matters more than cost, for example in a doctoral analysis.
- Start a new session when the plugin suggests it.
Our preliminary calculations suggest that usage can halve when sessions are split by phase and the conversation runs on Sonnet. We will confirm the figures with a comparison run that analyses the same data in both modes, and report the results.
